Benefits: Rhinoplasty can dramatically enhance your appearance and your self-esteem by changing the outside shape and size of your nose. Septoplasty straightens the inside of the nose to improve or maintain a good airway and also improves the external appearance. Septoplasty is common among men who have suffered nose fractures earlier in life and now want to straighten the nose and improve breathing.
During your initial consultation, computer imaging can show you how various techniques on the nose would enhance your appearance.
How Is It Done?
• You’ll receive a general anesthesia.
• Our practice makes just one incision across the base of the nose. This technique allows us to work on the cartilage in its natural position without distortion, provides greater visibility during the operation, reduces bleeding, and cuts post-op discomfort.
• In rhinoplasty, we remove or reposition cartilage and bone to reshape the nose.
• In septoplasty, we straighten and reposition the cartilage and bony parts of the septum, which is the central part of the nose that divides it into two separate sides lengthwise.
• We often combine straightening the inside of the nose (septoplasty) with reshaping the outside (rhinoplasty).
Recovery:
• You’ll have some stuffiness for the first day or so.
• A splint will protect your nose and hold it in place for about 1 week.
• When the splint comes off, most of the bruising and swelling will be diminished and can be covered by make-up.
• The dissolvable sutures are hidden on the underside of the nose, so there should be no visible scar.
• You should be able to resume normal activities and exercise in about 2 weeks and contact sports in 6 weeks.
• No packing is used, so there is virtually no pain and less bruising.
